Commvault provides backup and restore for supported Incus KVM-based virtual machines.
Connect the Incus environment to Commvault, organize the virtual machines that you want to protect in VM groups, and associate the VM groups with backup plans.
Key capabilities
With Commvault, you can:
-
Protect Incus KVM-based virtual machines by using VM groups and backup plans.
-
Restore individual guest files from a virtual machine backup.
-
Restore a complete virtual machine to its original location or another supported Incus destination.
-
Manage supported Incus hypervisor and protection settings.
How Incus protection works
To protect Incus virtual machines, configure the Incus hypervisor in Commvault and specify the connection information, Incus credential, and access node to use for data protection operations.
Create a VM group to define the virtual machines that you want to protect, and associate the VM group with a backup plan. Commvault uses the configured protection settings to back up the selected virtual machines.
From a backup, you can restore individual guest files or a complete virtual machine.
Support Requirements
Commvault 11.46 supports Incus 7.2 and later. Commvault protects Incus KVM-based virtual machines. Incus containers aren't supported.
Before you configure protection, review Support for supported storage pools, storage volume content types, and other Incus support boundaries.
Back up virtual machines
Prepare the Incus environment and configure the credentials and permissions required for data protection operations. Then, configure the Incus hypervisor, create a VM group, associate a backup plan, and validate the initial backup. See Backups for Incus virtual machines.
Restore virtual machines and files
Choose a restore workflow based on what you need to restore:
-
Guest files: Restore individual files or folders from a protected Incus virtual machine.
-
Full virtual machine: Restore a complete virtual machine to its original location or another supported Incus destination.
For restore options and workflows, see Restore Incus virtual machines.
Manage Incus protection
After you configure protection, you can manage supported Incus hypervisor and protection settings.
For available management operations, see Manage Incus protection.
