For some VMs (including Azure and VMware VMs), you can run a test backup to verify that a VM can be backed up successfully with your current settings.
To run a test backup, follow these steps:
-
From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtual machines.
-
On the Virtual machines tab, locate the VM.
-
In the VM row, click the actions menu, and then select Troubleshoot > Test backup.
-
In most cases, leave the automatic transport mode and access node options selected.
If your environment has multiple networks or if you need to control where backup data is transferred from, you can select a specific access node.
-
Select the backup type:
-
File system and application consistent: Uses VMware Tools to quiesce the operating system and supported applications.
-
Crash consistent: Takes a point-in-time snapshot without quiescing.
-
-
Click Test backup.
If the test fails, review the job details and confirm VMware permissions and network connectivity.
