The Load Balance DeDuplication DB Partitions workflow can automatically redistribute overloaded deduplication database (DDB) partitions to available MediaAgent access paths. For each eligible partition, the workflow initiates a DDB move from the source MediaAgent to the destination MediaAgent.
Partitions move only among MediaAgents and access paths associated with the same DDB.
Load-balancing modes
| Mode | Trigger | Behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Global | Every 15 days | Evaluates and balances overloaded storage pools throughout the CommCell environment. Load is balanced per partition. |
| Create a MediaAgent | A new MediaAgent is created in an overloaded storage pool, or a DDB role is assigned to an existing MediaAgent in that pool. | Attempts to redistribute load using the newly created or assigned MediaAgent immediately, without waiting 15 days. |
| Global and create a MediaAgent | Both conditions are met: 15 days have passed since the last successful workflow run with DDB moves, and a MediaAgent or DDB role has been newly created or assigned in a pool. | Performs load balancing based on both conditions. |
Scheduling and expected behavior
-
The workflow is scheduled to run daily, but the schedule is disabled by default.
-
For new installations, the workflow schedule is enabled by default.
-
Sealed and offline DDB partitions are excluded from migration.
-
DDB move jobs start in batches of five and run in parallel.
-
After successful partition migration, the software emails the administrator details of the changes.
