Indicates whether the MediaAgent is installed with NDMP Remote Server. NDMP Remote Server is installed automatically with the MediaAgent software.

Roles Assigned

Displays the roles performed by the MediaAgent. The following are the roles:

  • Storage MediaAgent: Stores the backup data.

  • Index MediaAgent: Performs the indexing operations.

  • DDB MediaAgent: Hosts the deduplication database.

  • Data Mover MediaAgent: Performs the data backup and restore operations.

  • Content Indexing MediaAgent: Acts as a content indexing server.

  • Virtual Server Proxy MediaAgent: Acts as a virtual server proxy to perform backup and restore operations.

  • Hyperscale MediaAgent: Acts as a MediaAgent in the HyperScale Storage Pool.

Maximum number of parallel data transfer operations

  • Restrict to

Select how many number of concurrent read/write operations need to be established to the MediaAgent.

The default number of concurrent read/write operations to a MediaAgent is 25. This value can be set between 1 and 75.

If Optimize for Concurrent LAN Backup option is enabled in the MediaAgent Properties - Control tab, then the default value is set to 100 and this value can be set to a maximum of 500.

Data Integrity Validation

  • Validation on Media

When selected, validates the integrity of data stored in the media, during data recovery operations.

  • Validation on Network

When selected, validates the integrity of data transferred over the network during data protection operations.

MediaAgent Properties (Control)

Use this dialog box to establish the control related options for a MediaAgent.

Enable MediaAgent

Specifies whether the MediaAgent is online or offline. Select this option to bring the MediaAgent online and make it available for use. Clear this option to take the MediaAgent offline. When a MediaAgent is offline, the libraries and drives controlled by the MediaAgent are inaccessible to the CommCell components.

The MediaAgent's enable status reflects its logical availability in the CommCell; it does not indicate hardware, software or communication failure.

Status

Displays the status of the MediaAgent. (Online/Offline).

Offline Reason

Displays the offline reason, when the Status of the MediaAgent is displayed as Offline.

Mark MediaAgent Offline for Maintenance

Specifies whether the MediaAgent is available for data protection, data recovery and auxiliary copy operations.

When selected, the MediaAgent will be unavailable for data protection, data recovery or auxiliary copy operations. However, the MediaAgent will be available to perform other administrative tasks on the devices attached to the MediaAgent, such as Full Scan, Drive Cleaning, etc.

This option is useful when you wish to perform administrative or maintenance related tasks on the devices attached to the MediaAgent.

  • The Enable after a Delay button appears to the right side of this operation. It allows you to pre-determine the date and time at which the MediaAgent should be marked offline.

Tip

Selecting the Mark MediaAgent Offline for Maintenance check box ignores the MediaAgent went Offline alert. Therefore, you will not get any alert notification after selecting the Mark MediaAgent Offline for Maintenance check box.

However, you can use the MediaAgent in Maintenance Mode alert rule to receive alert notification when the MediaAgent is marked offline for maintenance. For more information, see Alerts and Notifications - Installing Alert Rules from the Commvault Store.

Automatically detect WORM Tape Media

Specifies whether the MediaAgent must automatically detect a WORM media when it is used in a drive. Enable this option if you plan to use WORM media in the libraries attached to the MediaAgent.

Data Transfer

  • Optimize for concurrent LAN backups

This option can be enabled when the MediaAgent is used for concurrent data protection operations from a large number of clients. For example, if you have 25 clients concurrently using the MediaAgent for 50 or more data transfer streams in a specific operation window, it is recommended that you enable this option. Enabling this option will help to optimize the Operating System resources on the MediaAgent.

For more information, see MediaAgents - Supported Features, Agents and Devices.

Device Detection

  • Auto Update SCSI ID during live operation

Specifies whether the MediaAgent software will automatically update the SCSI ID during a load/unload/read/write operation, if there are issues relating to access path mismatch or HBA fail over.

    SCSI/SAN device scan interval (n) hours(s)

Specifies the time interval after which successive SCSI updates can be run on the MediaAgent when a failure is encountered during mount/unmount and read/write operations.

  • Mark drive inaccessible on error and perform status check according to device scan interval

Specifies whether the drive controller is marked offline if the MediaAgent is not able to access the device during mount operations. The software automatically scans the devices and re-enables the drive controller when it becomes accessible. Note that if multiple MediaAgents access the drive, the drive would continue to be available to the other MediaAgents accessing the drive.

See MediaAgent Properties in Books Online for detailed information on this option.

Use Native device driver for data transfer for tape media

This option is available only in Unix MediaAgents. Indicates whether the MediaAgent will use the pass-through drivers (provided by the MediaAgent software) or the native driver to communicate with tape devices. Select this option to use the native driver.

Send pass-through commands to Atape on AIX

Option to allow MediaAgent to send pass-through commands to Atape device drivers.

Device access using pass-through driver on Linux

Option to ensure that no other process can access the tape device while Commvault processes have the device node open.
