When a laptop is repurposed, stolen, lost, or discarded, it cannot connect to the Metallic software for scheduled backups and is considered offline. You can automatically uninstall the laptop package from such offline laptops by selecting the number of days after which the Metallic software uninstalls the laptop package and releases the license.
This automated process saves you from manual intervention, ensuring efficient management of your offline laptops.
You can restore the data from the uninstalled laptop for a selected period. After the chosen period, the Metallic software deletes the laptop and its data.
Note
You can configure the period for managing offline laptops on the corresponding Company page or in the laptop plan. The laptop plan period settings take precedence over the company period settings.
For more information about configuring the time period in a laptop plan, see Setting a Laptop Plan to Manage and Delete Offline Laptops.
Caution
To retire a laptop manually by uninstalling the laptop package, see Retiring a Laptop or Computer. The data retention settings are different for laptops that are manually retired. Data is available for restore for 90 days for manually retired or uninstalled laptops.

From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Manage > System.
The System page appears.

The Laptop options page appears.

Update the uninstall and delete settings:
-
In the Discontinue backups when laptops are offline for box, specify the time after which the offline laptop is uninstalled automatically.
Additionally, after the specified time elapses, the offline laptops without any associated backup data are deleted. The offline laptops with associated backup data are left deconfigured so their data is available for potential restoration.
-
In the Data cannot be restored after box, enter the time for retaining the deconfigured laptop.
After the time elapses, the Metallic software purges the deconfigured laptop's data from the system. Subsequently, you cannot restore the data from such laptops.
