Software Requirements for Auto Recovery

Install Commvault software on one or more servers to support replication for auto recovery. The Commvault software can run on virtual machines.

The Commvault deployment can reside on separate infrastructure or can be co-located with the primary site. If the Commvault deployment is co-located with the primary site, configure CommCell Auto Recovery to ensure that the Commvault deployment remains accessible if the primary site is unavailable.

Note

An Auto Recovery VM license is required for continuous replication using VAIO.

CommServe software (Command Center)

10 GB of disk space on the operating system drive. This space is used for temporary files copied during the installation or upgrade of the CommServe and Microsoft SQL Server software.

  • Recommended operating system:

    • Windows Server 2019 Editions or Core Editions.

      The software can be installed on a cluster if clustering is supported by the operating system.

  • The Microsoft SQL Server application that is installed on the computer must be dedicated to support the software and cannot be shared by other applications.

    Microsoft SQL Server 2019 Enterprise, Standard, and Express editions are supported. Microsoft SQL Server must be manually installed.

  • Enable Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) on the machine where you install the CommServe software. The Web Server and Web Console components are required, and are installed automatically when IIS is enabled.

  • Includes the following software:

    • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6

    • Java 11

    • Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2017

Web Server

The software installation requires 30 GB of disk space for Microsoft SQL Server application and database and 20 GB of temp space on the drive where the temp directory resides.

  • Recommended operating system:

    • Windows Server 2019 Editions or Core Editions

      The software can be installed on a cluster if clustering is supported by the operating system.

  • Minimum of 500 GB is required for the restore cache directory.

  • The job results directory for the File System agent that is installed on the Web Server should have enough space to cache the search restores from users. This depends on the number of files that may be restored, disk quota, and the retention period configured by the administrator.

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Express Edition is automatically installed during the installation of the Web Server software. If you have Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Edition already installed in your environment, the Web Server will use the existing SQL Server.

  • Includes the following software:

    • Commvault File System Agent

    • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6

    • Microsoft .NET Core Hosting Bundle 8.0.11

      If it is necessary to upgrade the .NET Core Hosting Bundle to the latest version, run ASP.NET Core Runtime 2.1.x.

MediaAgent

Software installation requires 20 GB of disk space on the operating system drive. This space is used for temporary files copied during the installation or upgrade of the MediaAgent software.

10 GB is required for MediaAgent software and log file growth.

  • Install the MediaAgent package on Windows or Linux machines that are running the most recent version of Windows or Linux operating systems.

  • For optimal performance, use solid-state drive (SSD) technology for your local index cache disk.

  • Includes the following software:

    • Commvault File System Agent

    • Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2017

    • .NET Framework 4.5

Virtual Server Agent (VSA)

Verify that at least 100 GB free space is available for installing the Virtual Server Agent.
