Using Find to Restore Objects for Active Directory

You can define a search for specific Active Directory objects in the Find feature, and then restore those objects or view details about the media where the objects are stored. Use wildcard characters to help define your search terms.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, go to Client Computers > Client> Active Directory.

  2. To open the Find dialog box from a backup set, right-click a backup set and click All Tasks > Find.

  3. To open the Find dialog box from a job, you must first view the backup history:

    1. Right-click a backup set, and click View > Backup History.

    2. On the Backup History Filter dialog box, click OK.

    3. Right click a job, and click All Tasks > Find.

  4. In the Find dialog box, on the Time Range tab, in the Name/Pattern dialog box, enter a string of text of text to search for, such as the name of a domain component (DC) or common name (CN).

    For example, to find backed-up content for the CN named "Program Data," type CN=Program Data.

    or

    To find the backed-up contents of an entire DC named "com," type DC=com.

    Tip: If you do not know the exact path of the object that you want to find, use wildcard characters with an asterisk to find the object. For example, to search for objects that have the word "Finance", type "*Finance*".

  5. Click View Content.

  6. Select each object that you want to restore, and then view details about the media where the objects are stored, or restore the objects:

    • To view the export location and other details about the place where the backed-up data is stored, click List Media and Size.

    • To restore the selected objects, click Recover All Selected, and in the Restore Options dialog box, click OK.
