Virtualize Me - Windows - Prerequisites

Set Up a Client Computer

The client computer is the computer that you want to convert into a virtual machine. To set up the client computer, use the following steps:

  1. Verify that the computer meets the minimum requirements specified in System Requirements.

You cannot convert the Windows computer into a virtual machine when:

    • The computer has Windows operating system installed on a disk other than its first disk.

    • The computer has Windows operating system installed on a drive other than the C drive.

  2. Install the Windows File System Agent on your client computer. For more information, see Preinstallation Checklist for the Windows File System Agent.

Install the Windows File System Agent by using the installation method that is most appropriate for your environment. For instructions, see Installation Methods.

Perform a System State Backup of the Client Computer

Perform a system state backup of your client computer. For more information, see Configuring System State Backups for the Windows File System Agent.

Remember:

  • When you perform a backup of a Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1 client, ensure that you enable the Administrator's account.

You cannot perform the virtualize client computer if the administrator's account is not enabled while performing the backup.

  • Do not filter system state components, files or directories that are required to turn on the computer.

  • Do not attach more than 100 disks to the client computer. If the client computer has more than 100 disks attached, then the system state backup fails with the following error:

VDS Wrapper list maximum count reached. No more space in the list.

    2. Copy the ISO file of the boot CD Image to any datastore on the ESX server or the Hyper-V server in which you want to create the virtual machine.
