Migrating Clients to Indexing Version 2 on the Command Center

You can can execute the Upgrade to IndexingV2 workflow on the Command Center to migrate client computers from Indexing Version 1 to Indexing Version 2.

Before You Begin

  • Run a full backup or synthetic full backup (whichever is applicable).

  • Verify that a Workflow Engine is installed.

  • Download the Upgrade to IndexingV2 workflow from the Commvault Store.

  • Stop all jobs on the client computers that are expected to be changed with this workflow.

  • Gather the following information, which you will enter into the workflow configuration when it runs:

    • The names of the clients or client groups that you want to change to Indexing Version 2.

    • The type of agent that is installed on the client computers or client groups you want to change to Indexing Version 2.

You can change only client computers with the same type of agent in a single Upgrade Indexing V2 Workflow job. If you want to change client computers with different agents, configure and perform separate workflow jobs for each type of supported agent.

    • The number of client computers, from 1 to 20, that you want to allow the workflow to change in parallel.

  • If you back up to tape media, you must have the last cycle's tapes on site before you change to Indexing Version 2.

  • For file system clients with IntelliSnap enabled, also consider the following:

    • Perform a backup copy of all IntelliSnap jobs before changing to Indexing Version 2.

    • Perform at least one IntelliSnap job for each subclient after upgrading.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Workflows and click Upgrade to IndexingV2.

The Upgrade to IndexingV2 dialog box appears.

  2. Beside Choose the component you would like to upgrade, run the workflow on clients or on a client group:

    • To configure the workflow for clients, select Client(s),

    • To configure the workflow for client groups, select Client Group.

  3. In the Client(s) list, select the clients that you want to run the workflow on.

  4. The Client(s) list contains actual client names, not display names.

  5. In the Agent list, select the type of agent that you want to change on the clients.

  6. In the Number of Parallel Upgrades list, enter the maximum number of clients that the workflow can process simultaneously.

You can enter a value from 1 to 20.

Prior to running the workflow, the system determines if a full or a synthetic full backup ran in the last 45 days for the subclients on the clients that you are upgrading. If no such backup ran, then the system will not migrate that client.

  7. To ignore the pre-upgrade check and proceed with the migration regardless of whether a full or synthetic full backup ran on the subclients in the past 45 days, select Ignore Pre-Upgrade Check.

  8. Click OK.
