Macintosh File System - Upgrading the Operating System

You can upgrade the Macintosh file system on a client computer.

Before You Begin

  • Identify the computers to be upgraded and what software is installed.

  • Ensure that you have all the information required for the Macintosh Install before uninstalling, installing, or upgrading any software. The Macintosh file system agent software must be re-installed using the same configuration as the original install, in order to access the backed up data and history from the previous installation.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Console, on the client being upgraded, kill all jobs that are running, waiting, pending, or stopped.

For instructions, see Killing a Job.

  2. From the CommCell Console, right-click the client and then select Properties.

  3. On the Activity Control tab, clear the Enable Backup and Enable Restore check boxes, and then click OK.

  4. Stop the services on the client by using the commvault Stop command.

  5. Upgrade, or install the new version of, the operating system.

    Important

Do not delete the client’s agent icon in the CommCell Console. If you do, the associated backup data and history will be lost.

  6. If you completely replaced your operating system with a clean install, rather than an upgrade, reinstall the Base software, and then reinstall the Macintosh File System agent software. See Deployment - Macintosh File System agent.

    Notes

    • The agent software should be installed to the same directory in which it was previously installed.

    • Ensure the client is installed with the same Fully Qualified Domain Name or short domain name with which it had been previously installed.

Post-Upgrade Considerations

  • Install any updates or service packs that may have been made available after the release of the Macintosh file sSyste agent software.

  • Ensure that backups and restores are no longer disabled. If necessary, enable backups and restores from the Activity Control tab of the agent Properties dialog box.

  • It is recommended to run a full backup of the default subclient after performing an operating system upgrade to secure the new operating system data. Do not perform the following operations until a full backup has been run:

    • Full agent restore

    • System state restore

    • Synthetic full backup

  • Reinstall all other agents, including any post-release updates or service packs, in the same locations in which they were previously installed.
