Install the Virtual Server package on a virtual machine in the Oracle VM Manager environment.
Access node operating systems
The following operating systems are supported for access nodes:

Microsoft Windows Server 2025 Editions

Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Editions

Oracle Linux 6.x, 7.x, 8.x

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x, 8.x
Access node requirements

Both Windows and UNIX access nodes must use the Oracle VM domain type Xen HVM PV drivers.

Windows access nodes must use Oracle VM Windows PV drivers version 2.3.2 or later.

For Linux access nodes, disable automatic activation of volumes. For more information, see Best practices - IntelliSnap for UNIX file systems.

For a machine that runs Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.x or 9.x, register the machine with Red Hat to install operating system packages that are required for automatic Mono installation.

Only virtual machines that have the Virtual Server package installed can act as access nodes for backup and restore operations.

Deploy at least one access node.

If a virtual machine resides on a shared repository, the access node virtual machine must reside on the same repository.
User accounts
The user account that is used for backups and restores must have administrative privileges for Oracle VM Manager, including the OVM Clone Operation privilege.
