Jobs

The Jobs pages provide visibility into all jobs in the CommCell environment, including:

  • Jobs that you initiate (for example, a restore job)
  • Jobs that Commvault runs automatically (for example, scheduled backup jobs), where scheduled jobs run based on resource availability at the time of execution.

The Jobs page organizes information into the following primary tabs: Active jobs, Job history, and Admin jobs.

Active Jobs

By default, the Active Jobs tab displays all jobs that are currently in one of the following states:

  • Running
  • Pending
  • Waiting
  • Queued
  • Suspended

Active jobs can be monitored and managed using available job actions.

Active jobs are presented in two views:

  • All: Displays all active jobs in the environment.

  • Focused jobs: Displays anomalous jobs that are running longer than expected.

A job is marked as anomalous based on a runtime threshold calculated from historical performance data. The system compares the current job with previous jobs of the same:

    • Subclient
    • Backup level

If the current job exceeds the computed runtime threshold, it is automatically flagged as anomalous (focused).

Because this evaluation is dynamically calculated based on past job performance, the runtime threshold cannot be manually adjusted.

Job history

By default, the Job history tab displays jobs that ran within the last 24 hours. Filtering options allow you to refine results by time range (for example, last week or last month) and other criteria.

You can view the following job outcomes:

  • Completed
  • Completed with errors
  • Completed with warnings
  • Failed
  • Failed to start
  • Killed

Admin jobs

The Admin Jobs tab displays jobs related to administrative operations, such as software installation and update.

By default, it shows administrative jobs that ran within the last 24 hours. Filtering options allow you to refine results by time range (for example, last week or last month) and other criteria.

You can view the following job outcomes:

  • Completed
  • Completed with errors
  • Completed with warnings
  • Failed
  • Failed to start
  • Killed

Note

On the server details page, you can use the activity control feature to disable and to enable entire job categories in your Commvault environment.
