Getting Started with the VAST Data Platform Storage Array

To set up the VAST Data Platform storage array, review system requirements, and then add the array in the Commvault software. Then you can modify the snapshot properties.

Procedure

  1. Verify that your environment meets the Systems Requirements for VAST Data Platform storage array.

  2. On Commvault software, add and configure the VAST Data Platform storage array.

  3. To customize the array to your environment, edit the Snap Configuration Properties of VAST Data Platform storage array.

The VAST Data Platform storage array is now ready to operate.

  4. Choose one of the supported agents for the VAST Data Platform storage array.

Important

  • Use VAST cluster‑scoped credentials when adding the VAST DATA Platform file server and configuring IntelliSnap.

  • Assign the Administrator role at the cluster level to the VAST user.

    - Verify that the Administrator role is used for cluster discovery, validation, backup, and restore operations.

    - Do not assign the CSI role for CIFS/NFS backups or restores; CSI is required only for container/Kubernetes workflows.

  • Verify the user has access to the appropriate logical realm on the VAST cluster.

  • Reuse the same permissions for both backup and restore operations.

  • Snapshot deletion may succeed without an explicit delete permission due to VAST‑side behavior.
