You can configure the system to automatically upload copies of Disaster Recovery (DR) backups to the Commvault Cloud Services Portal, in addition to storing them on a network share or local drive.
If you need to rebuild the CommServe server and both the CommServe host and the configured export destination are unavailable (for example, due to a ransomware attack), you can use the DR backups stored in the cloud.
Note
-
DR backups are uploaded directly from the CommServe and stored in Azure.
-
Up to five DR backup copies, including the latest differential backup (if available), are retained in the cloud for 90 days.
For more information about how DR backups are stored and managed, see Uploading DR Backups to Commvault Cloud.
Before You Begin
-
Verify that the CommServe computer is registered to access Commvault Cloud Services.
-
Verify that the following URLs are added to the allowlist:
All endpoints that include .blob.core.windows.net must be whitelisted on the CommServe computer. Additionally, ensure that https://cvdrservices.metallic.io is allowlisted on all Commvault web server machines.
-
If the CommServe network uses HTTPS inspection, or if an HTTP proxy is configured with its own certificate-signing CA, add the root CA to the curl-ca-bundle.crt file in the base directory to avoid verification failures. For more information, see KB article 59941.
Procedure
-
From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Manage > System.
-
Click the Maintenance tile.
-
Click the DR backup (Daily) tile.
-
Click Edit.
-
Enable the Upload backup metadata to Commvault Cloud toggle key.
-
From the Select region list, select the region to upload DR backups.
Note
When you select a new region, existing DR backups remain in the current region, and all future backups are uploaded to the newly selected region. After changing the region, the next DR backup job runs as a full backup, even if it was previously scheduled as a differential backup.
For information about supported regions, see Regions Supported for DR Backups in Commvault cloud (Azure).
-
For Daily start time, select the custom schedule for DR backups, if required.
-
To reduce the size of databases during DR backup, enable the Enable compression toggle key.
-
Click Save.
Results
Each time a DR backup runs, a copy of the DR data is uploaded to the Commvault Cloud.
