Configure an HTTP proxy for outbound internet access

If the servers in your Commvault environment cannot connect directly to the internet, configure HTTP proxies to enable outbound access. You can create a proxy for your MediaAgents and your CommServe.

MediaAgents proxy

A MediaAgents proxy provides access to cloud storage and other external services that are required for backup, restore, verification, and maintenance operations.

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Manage > Environment > Infrastructure.

  2. Click the Server groups tile.

  3. Click the MediaAgents server group.

  4. On the Configuration tab, on the HTTP proxy tile, enable the Use HTTP proxy toggle key.

  5. Specify how to provide the proxy:

    • If a proxy is already defined on your MediaAgents, enable the Use the client OS proxy settings toggle key.

    • Otherwise, leave Use the client OS proxy settings disabled, and specify the proxy server host name or IP address and port.

  6. If the proxy requires credentials, enable the Use authentication toggle key, and enter the username and password.

  7. If your environment uses network topologies, enable the Use with network topologies toggle key.

  8. In Proxy bypass, enter hostnames or domains that should connect directly, without using the HTTP proxy.

  9. Click Save.

Proxy for CommServe

A CommServe proxy provides outbound connectivity such as downloads and support-related communication.

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Manage > Environment > Network.

  2. Click the HTTP proxy tile, and enable the Proxy server toggle key.

  3. Enter the proxy server host name or IP address and port.

  4. In Proxy bypass, enter hostnames or domains that should connect directly, without using the HTTP proxy.

    Valid values
    • Entries can contain letters (a–z), numbers (0–9), periods (.), and hyphens (-).
    • The . operator cannot appear at the beginning of an entry (for example, .amazonaws.com is not allowed).
    • Use "" to bypass the proxy for local addresses.
    • You can enter a full hostname (for example, rds.ap-south-1.amazonaws.com).
    • You can enter a domain (for example, amazonaws.com) to bypass the proxy for that domain and its subdomains.
  5. To send log jobs without using the proxy, select Ignore HTTP proxy for Send Log Job.

Use this option if the proxy interferes with Send Log Job uploads.

  1. To require authentication, enable the User authentication toggle key, and enter the user name and password.
