Backing Up an Azure SQL Managed Instance

You can perform a full backup of an Azure SQL managed instance.

Azure SQL Native (Export-Based) Backups – Automated Backup Synchronization

Note

The following synchronization behavior applies only to Azure SQL Native (export-based) protection.

For Azure SQL Native (export-based) protection, Azure automated backups and long-term retention (LTR) metadata are synchronized:

  • Approximately every 24 hours.

  • During browse operations (when accessing the recovery point calendar).

  • At the completion of an export backup job.

Procedure

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Databases.

    The Overview page appears.

  2. On the Instances tab, in the row for the Azure SQL database instance that you want to back up, click the action button action_button, and then click Backup.

The Backup options dialog box appears.

  3. Under Backup level, select Full.

  4. Click Submit.
