Exporting File System Backups as SMB and NFS Shares

Deprecated

The ability to add new 3DFS Network Shares is deprecated. The Add 3DFS Network Share option has been removed from Command Center. From CommCell Console, the Add button has been removed from the Manage 3DFS Network Share dialog. Existing 3DFS network shares can still be managed from the CommCell Console.

For comprehensive information about deprecated features, see End-of-Life, Deprecated and Extended Support - Features.

The Commvault 3DFS solution allows you to export the backup data as NFS or SMB shares, so you can use the Windows Explorer, PowerShell, or command line, to copy the files for restoring data.

Key Features

  • With the Commvault 3DFS solution, you can export backup data on the MediaAgent as an NFS share and mount the share on the NFS clients, or as a SMB share and mount the share on the SMB clients. The NFS and SMB clients can access the data, even if they do not have the Commvault software.

NFS v3, NFS v4, and SMB protocols are supported.

  • Simplified browse and restore operations because the exported backup data is available as a regular file system.

Terminology

The 3DFS documentation uses the following terminology:

NFS client

The client where the exported NFS share is mounted
