If a disaster or mount path loss occurs, you can use the data on secondary copies that are stored in an external location to recover SharePoint Server data. To restore SharePoint Server from secondary copies, you must take a secondary copy backup of the SharePoint Server data and the index server periodically, and store the backup in an external location.
Important
For disaster recovery and backups, tape based secondary copies are not supported.
