Creating a SAP MaxDB Instance

Create a SAP MaxDB instance in the CommCell Console.

Procedure

1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client.

2. Right-click SAP for MaxDB, point to All Tasks and then click New Instance.

   The Creating New Instance dialog box appears.

3. On the General tab, in the SAP MaxDB Instance box, enter the instance name.

4. Optional: Enter a description of the instance in the Description field.

5. On the Details tab, associate the instance to a schedule policy to perform backups.

   1. Select an existing Database credential or add a new credential.

      Steps to add a new database credential

      1. From the Database credential list, select Create new.

         The Add Credential dialog box appears.

      2. From the Account type list, select a database account.

      3. In the Credential name box, enter the credential name of the database user.

      4. In the Username box, enter the user name of the database user that can be used to access SAP MaxDB database.

      5. In the Password box, enter the password of the database user.

      6. In the Description box, enter the credential description.

      7. Click Ok.

   2. From the dbmcli Executable Path field, browse a correct dbmcli path.

      Note

      Run the command from the DBM client interface to find the dbmcli path.

      • For Windows - where dbmcli

      • For Linux - which dbmcli

6. On the Storage Device tab, enter storage policy information:

   1. Select the storage policy for command line backups. On the Command Line Backup tab, select the storage policy that you want to use for command line backups from the Storage Policy used for SAP user command list.

   2. Optional: Use a separate storage policy for log backups. On the Log Storage Policy tab, select the storage policy that you want to use for archive log backups from the Log Storage Policy list.

7. Click Ok.
