Setting Up the Installation Media for HyperScale X (Reference Architecture Only)

Download and set up the HyperScale X Reference Architecture software.

Note

For Appliances, the installation media comes pre-installed and this step is not required.

Procedure

  1. Log in to a Windows-based computer that can connect to the nodes.

  2. Download the most recent version of the HyperScale software from Commvault Store.

    Note

Hyperscale ISO 4.2608 is the current most recent version.

  3. Access the node using the KVM management console in your environment and map the downloaded ISO image as virtual media.

  4. Mount the ISO and power cycle the node.

  5. During the boot sequence, open the boot menu using the key combination for your server model, select the mapped virtual media, and start the Commvault HyperScale installer.

UEFI boot mode is recommended. Disable UEFI secure boot if it is enabled. Refer to the documentation for your server model for information about opening the boot menu and configuring secure boot.

  6. If the installer detects a previous HyperScale configuration, review the existing storage configuration and select Next.

    reimage_screen_1

The screen lists the existing data drives, metadata drive, metadata mount paths, index cache, and DDB details.

For a new machine that has not previously been configured for HyperScale, this screen does not appear.

  7. Select whether to preserve the existing drives or reinitialize them.

    reimage_screen_2

    • Select Preserve Drives to keep the existing drive contents.

    • Select Reinitialize Drives to format the drives with a new file system layout and destroy the existing data on those drives.

    Caution

Selecting Reinitialize Drives destroys the existing data on the listed drives. Use this option only when you intend to erase the existing data and reuse the server.

When you select Reinitialize Drives, enter Erase data and reuse server in the Reinit text field.

    Select Next.

  8. Wait while the installer builds the storage configuration.

    reimage_screen_3

  9. When the installer reports that the HyperScale appliance installation completed successfully and the media was ejected, reboot the server.

    reimage_screen_4

  10. After the reboot, wait for the HyperScale X login prompt.

    reimage_screen_5

The installer runs on Rocky Linux 9.8 and displays the node hostname and IP address.

  11. Log in with the default credentials:

    reimage_screen_6

    Login: root

    Password: cvadmin

  12. After logging in, the shell displays the hsxsetup command at the prompt.

    reimage_screen_7

The hostname is the node serial number. Note the hostname because you will use it to identify the node when you deploy the HyperScale X Reference Architecture software.

    Note

You can change the default password during setup.
