Modifying a Mount Path

You can modify the mount path associated with a MediaAgent.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand to Storage Resources | Libraries | <Library>.

  2. Right-click the appropriate mount path, and then click Properties.

  3. Click the Sharing tab.

  4. Select the appropriate controller, and then click Edit.

  5. In the Device Controller Details dialog box, do the following:

    1. Select the access type.

    2. Select the appropriate path.

      • If you select Local Path, enter the file path of a mount path.

      • If you select Network Path, then from the Credential list, select an appropriate credential to access the mount path. To create a new credential, click the Create New button. For instructions about creating a credential, see Adding a Credential to Credential Manager.

In the Folder box, enter the mount path location.

        Note

Do not use administrative shares to configure a mount path. (Example of an administrative path, \\MyServer\E$\.)

    3. In the Edit Maximum Allowed Writers area, select the number of writers that you want to assign.

      Note

These options are available only when the Read/Write access type is selected

    4. Select the Preferred check box to mark the MediaAgent as the preferred MediaAgent for the data transfer operations. This option is selected by default for the default MediaAgent on which the library is configured.

  6. Click OK.

For information on modifying the mount path using command line, see Modifying the Mount Path Using Command Line.

Validate Mount Path

You can validate a mount path to calculate the throughputs of a mount path and to check the read and write operations. You can determine the read and write throughputs based on a sample block size, number of writer/ thread, file size and the file count. During the validation process, the system writes data temporarily on the mount path and reads data from the mount path.

Validating a mount path is useful when you want to determine the read and write throughputs.

Note:

  • Validate mount path operation does not support MediaAgents using the following transport modes:

    • Fibre Channel (FC)

    • Internet SCSI (iSCSI)

  • Validate mount path operation performs validation in both Sequential and Random read/write modes.

  • You can run validate mount path operations only on version 11 MediaAgents.

  • From the CommCell Browser, expand to Storage Resources > Libraries> Library.

  • Right-click the appropriate mount path, and then click Validate Mount Path.

  • In the Validate Mount Path dialog box, select the MediaAgent. The default values for File Size(GB), Number of Writer/Thread, File block size(KB), and File Count are pre-populated. To change the default values, select a value from the drop down list, or type a value.

Note: The following are the default values:

    • File Size: 2GB

    • Number of Writer/Thread: 1

    • File block size: 64KB

    • File Count: 10

  • Click OK.

You can track the progress of the job from the Job Controller. On successful validation of the mount path, you can view the throughput details in a pop-up window.
