CommCell Readiness Report Overview

The CommCell Readiness Report displays information about the condition of your CommCell Console and can serve as a tool to warn you about potential problems that might affect your operations before the problems occur.

This report allows you to check if connectivity and communication problems exist between your CommServe, MediaAgents, and clients.

The following network communication checks are performed:

  • Client to CommServe

  • CommServe to Client

  • Client to MediaAgent

  • MediaAgent to Client

  • Client to Deduplication Database MediaAgent, if client-side deduplication is enabled.

  • Deduplication Database MediaAgent to Client, if client-side deduplication is enabled.

  • MediaAgent to Deduplication Database MediaAgent

  • Deduplication Database MediaAgent to MediaAgent

The following resource checks are performed:

  • MediaAgent status, whether online or offline

  • Library, mount path status, whether online or offline

  • Library Controller status, whether online or offline

  • Drive pool, Master pool, Standalone media status

  • Mount path space check, or watermark space check

  • Backup space size check

  • NDMP filer resource check for NAS Subclients

  • Deduplication database store status

  • SharePoint Client check to verify that the correct permissions are associated to run a backup and restore. Verified permissions include:

    • Local Admin

    • Farm Admin

    • SQL Permissions

    • Access To Commvault Registrykey

    • Web Application Permission

    • Commvault Services Account

    • SQL Server Services Account

    • SharePoint Timer Service Account

    • Web Application Pool Accounts

You can use the CommCell Readiness Report to review information about the overall status of the network and resources for the CommCell Console. This report is useful if you need to:

  • Check if connectivity and communication problems exist between your CommServe computer, MediaAgents, DDB MediaAgents and clients. Eight-way connectivity checks are performed as follows:

    • Subclient to Data path

    • Client to MediaAgent

    • MediaAgent to Client

    • MediaAgent to CommServe

    • Client to CommServe

    • CommServe to Client

    • DDB MediaAgent to Client

    • MediaAgent to DDB MediaAgent

  • Check whether data interface pairs are configured.

  • Check connectivity between Continuous Data Replicator pairs. This is reported in a separate table.

  • Verify that library controllers, libraries, master drive pools, drive pools, and drives are online.

  • Verify the existence of the index cache location and to check the index cache label's contents against the selected MediaAgent's index cache.

  • Review the results of a space check that monitors consumed space and free space remaining for components that are essential to the operation of the software.

  • Check for the readiness of the data paths on all copy types (for example, primary, secondary, synchronous, etc.).

  • Check for the readiness of the DDB partitions and DDB MediaAgents.

  • Check that the DB2, Oracle or SAP Oracle database client and MediaAgent are ready when they are connected to the CommServe computer and available for backup and restore jobs and that the databases meet the following configuration criteria:

    • The database user has read and write permissions on the Commvault registry, log files and base directories.

    • The database user is a member of the Commvault install group.

    • For SAP Oracle databases, the SAP backint symbolic links are configured and correctly pointing to the Commvault backint.
