Terminology

The Amazon S3 documentation uses the following terminology:

Virtual client

The interface that protects your Amazon S3 data.

Instance

The entity that represents your data in an Amazon S3 storage account. You can create multiple instances to manage different Amazon S3 storage accounts.

Subclient

The logical entity that defines the Amazon S3 data to be backed up.

Object

Represents a unit of storage in Amazon S3.

Bucket

Represents a collection of Amazon S3 objects.
