Creating Destination Volumes for Snapshots with TPV

To use SnapOPC snapshots or SnapOPC+ snapshots with Thin provisioning volume (TPV), complete the following steps:

  1. On the array software, create TPV volumes.
  2. When you create a TPV volume, verify that the TPV volume size is equal to the size of the source volume.
  3. On the Commvault software, specify the volume label prefix snapshot configuration property for the volume name.
  4. On the Commvault software, select Use Thin Volume for SnapOPC/SnapOPC+ snapshot configuration property.

Caution:

If the snapshot backup job does not find the volume that is specified on the volume label prefix snapshot configuration property, then it fails.

The snapshot backup job also fails if the source volume has SnapOPC+ snapshots with mixed target volumes of type, that is, SDV and TPV. This is the scenario if you already have snapshots with SDVs and then select the Use Thin Volume for SnapOPC/SnapOPC+ snapshot configuration property.
