Configuring Web Analytics

The features of Web Analytics are available to a Web Console user only after the Index Store and Index Server are deployed and configured for Web Analytics. To configure Web Analytics, you must perform the following operations.

Before You Begin

Web Analytics is offered as part of Web Console. Therefore, you must consider the following configuration before you use Web Analytics in your setup:

  • If you are not the CommCell administrator, you must have a security association that includes a role with the Agent Management or Administrative Management permission and an association with the MediaAgent you select as the engine. For information on adding a security association to a user, see Administering the Security Associations of a User.
  • The use of Web Analytics requires the same environment that your computer requires for Web Console. For information on the Web Console system requirements, see System Requirements.
  • If you do not have an Index Store client and Index Server configured in your CommCell environment, or if you want to configure a new Index Store client or Index Server, install the Index Store package on a client in your CommCell environment and create an Index Server. For more information, see Index Store and Index Server Overview.

Ensure that the Web Server and the Web Console are installed in your environment. By default, these components are automatically installed along with the CommServe in a production server where IIS is enabled. For information on the installation of the Web Console components, see Installing the Command Center.

  • Perform the following steps to configure permissions for Web Analytics users:
    1. Create a role with the Analytics > Web Analytics permission.
    2. On the Index Server pseudo-client (under Client Computer Groups > Index Server Group), add a security association for the user or user group and select the role with the Web Analytics permission.

For more information about assigning user roles and permissions, see User Administration and Security - Creating a Role.

Procedure

  • As an administrator, you can enable the Index Server for Web Analytics in one of the following ways:
    • From the CommCell Console, configure an Index Server with the Web Analytics role.

For instructions, see Changing the Roles Configured on an Index Server.

    • Enable Web Analytics from the Web Console:
      1. From the CommCell Console ribbon, on the Home tab, click Web Console.
      2. From the My Applications page of Web Console, click Analytics.
      3. From the Analytics page of Web Console, click Web Analytics.
      4. Under Choose the MA to enable Web Analytics, select an Index Server from the list.
      5. Click Enable.

The Web Analytics page opens with the default Registered Sites tab to confirm that the Web Analytics engine is enabled.
