Backing Up Instances for OpenStack

You can back up instances or images from a subclient or from a backup set (to include all subclients for the backup set). For each subclient, you must add the instances or images to be backed up in the subclient content.

Before You Begin

  • Decide which type of backup is appropriate. Typically, you can choose either an incremental or full backup type when you install the agent.
  • The user performing the backup must have an admin role.
  • For EMC VNX storage, you must configure the bUseSnapCopy additional setting on the VSA proxy.

Enabling the additional setting will improve the backup performance of a VM that has its volume created on EMC VNX storage.

To the VSA proxy computer, add the bUseSnapCopy additional setting as shown in the following table.

For instructions about adding additional settings from the CommCell Console, see Adding or Modifying Additional Settings from the CommCell Console.

  • For Huawei storage, you must configure the bDoNotUseFullClone additional setting on the VSA proxy.

By default, during the volume creation from its Cinder snapshot, Huawei storage executes a full copy operation. The full copy operation takes a large amount of time, thereby, increasing the backup window of the VM. With the additional setting enabled, the full copy will be avoided.

To the VSA proxy computer, add the bDoNotUseFullClone additional setting as shown in the following table.

For instructions about adding additional settings from the CommCell Console, see Adding or Modifying Additional Settings from the CommCell Console.
