Azure Blob Storage Overview

Microsoft Azure Blob Storage is a scalable, online cloud data storage service that stores data blobs in containers.

You can back up the data stored in Azure Blob Storage using the Commvault software.

Key Features

Create a Backup Copy

Make a backup copy of the Azure Blob Storage data by backing up to a local storage.

Distributed Restores to the Cloud

Distributed restores to the cloud by using multiple streams for optimal load sharing.

Azure Blob Storage Inside Azure Stack

You can use the Commvault software to back up Azure Blob Storage inside of Azure Stack.

Review the following requirements for Azure Blob Storage in an Azure Stack:

  • Verify that the proxy client (access node) is inside Azure Stack.
  • Configure the URL. For example, blob.local.azurestack.external.

Terminology

The Azure Blob Storage documentation uses the following terminology:

Virtual client

The interface that protects your Azure Blob Storage data.

Instance

The entity that represents your data in an Azure Blob Storage account. You can create multiple instances to manage different Azure Blob Storage accounts.

Subclient

The logical entity that defines the Azure Blob Storage data to be backed up.

Blob

Represents a unit of storage in Azure Blob Storage.
